You can view this info that is sent to their servers db at any time via this URL. It did not disable the Direct IP connection ability over WAN.
In the Pro-HD the last firmware update only added the option for the Slingbox to send the information required to their servers db so as to locate the box's IP and port info for remote connection. But it won't allow any reconfiguration or setup of any "reset" box, and it is this functionality that will be entirely lost once they switch off their servers (and why I have also pre-setup 2 spare boxes with the equip I use in Japan in case my SlingBox Pro-HD dies). It is the case that the Player 2.0.4 doesn't authenticate i.e require account login when on a LAN and will recognise the box on it allowing you to setup the Directory entry without their servers or login. Could this possibly mean that the Slingbox will continue work "locally" using this Player after the shutdown next year? So I never have to connect to my Sling account.įurther more, all of the settings in the app, talk about a "direct" connection to the Slingbox. Interestingly, when I connect, I enter the password "locally" and then it takes me to my Slingplayer account which I just close. The video quality seems HUGELY improved (I guess because its streaming locally/directly, rather than over the "cloud") and there are so many more options/features, it just feels more "modern". So glad I asked now, as if this works every time, I will be really happy as its just a nicer app. Last night I was reading about SlingPlayer 2.0.4 but saw that it had problems with Win10 so was going to give it a crack today.
